For Sale: The VX

My wife found a great job in Raliegh and now she wants to treat herself to a new car. So I expect that over the next month or two I will get the Prius back. The VX must go.....:(

She will have over 150k miles by then. She comes with a SuperMID, HX rims and Insight LRR tires. New O2 sensor, axles, drums, rotors and pads and just had an alignment last week.

The belly pan came off for the alignment and isn't going back on because I won't sell the car with a somewhat controversial mod (perceived melting and fire danger).

She has rust in the usual locations by the rear wheel well and even though I replaced the rotors, there is a substantial shimmy while braking at high speeds. The gas gauge gets whacky at under 1/2 tank so I fill up at about 3/8 tank. I wouldn't go lower.

I would prefer to sell to a GS member. Best Offer.

PM me with an offer if you are interested.

MetroMPG 11-20-2006 11:30 AM

I believe Diamond Larry called dibs :)

Has your wife picked a car?

SVOboy 11-20-2006 01:20 PM

aw shucks, and here I am wanting it.

Good luck, sir!

MetroMPG 11-20-2006 02:06 PM

Where's kickflip? He's still car shopping, isn't he?

I'll start a bidding war before you know it, Dan ;)

Matt Timion 11-20-2006 03:09 PM

Does this mean that you'll be posting less now on GS as a result of switching to the Hybrid (Dark) side?

No, he's just getting started. :D

krousdb 11-20-2006 03:25 PM

Actually, I will be getting a scangauge for the Prius and plan on doing extensive testing on mods. As soon as the family joins me in Raliegh, I will be posting more.

SVOboy 11-20-2006 03:36 PM

How much are you shooting to git?

yes I am. The vx seems like it could be in my price range.

krousdb 11-20-2006 04:01 PM

Ive got about $3000 invested. It would be nice to get the investment back out of it. It really doesn't matter though, it goes for the best offer.

I will be in the Pittsburgh area over thanksgiving and driving back to Raliegh on Sunday. If you want a test drive, lemme know.

Yay!

krousdb 11-20-2006 04:18 PM

 I have an optimal commute for testing. The scangauge will give me insight into ECT, IAT, manifold vacuum, enginer rpm, % load. I plan on driving for a few weeks at 60 mph with cruise control to collect baseline data. The only variables will be temp and wind speed/direction. Then I will choose to vary one thing at a time.

- Speed
- Tire Pressure
- Mirrors folded in
- Grille Block
- Wheel covers
- Belly pan
- Acetone?
- Super Duper Gas pills?
- High octane?
- E10
- Different brands of gas
- AC use
- Windows open
- Gassavers bumper sticker:D
- Suggestions from the GS members

I found a Scanguage II on ebay for $140 shipped. I think I will take it.

FormulaTwo 11-20-2006 07:19 PM

willing to sell that supermid?

I could drive out and pick that up from you.

i wish i had the $$$ i would just buy the whole car!

Although We could work out some ridiculous trading.......

95 mercury voyager van + 98 chevy malibu (voyager needs an oil pan, malibu needs a headgasket), + pin ball machine + foos ball table + a lap top ( HP pavilion n5420), my snowboard setup ( boots, bindings, board), a canon scanner and printer, A smith machine ( bench press, squat) a fuji film camera, AND ........ $250!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

all of this for the car!

Man i didnt realize how much stuff i need to get rid of

haha im sure u do not want any of that at all..

anyways
good luck with the sale
and let me know if you want to sell me the supermid

repete86 11-20-2006 08:01 PM

I'm interested in the SuperMID, but am not int he market for a whole car at the moment, as I still need to see what the best possible mileage is in an AT Honda that weighs too much.

SVOboy 11-20-2006 08:59 PM

Everyone who wants a supermid, just get one through yoshi, :p, he's not against selling them, :p

Yay for dan being the trendsetter though.

smithenhiven 11-21-2006 05:23 AM

How far is Raliegh from Charolette? I will be down that way next month to watch the Steelers play the Panthers. I was going to drive down and drive back, but if we can strike a deal, maybe I'll fly down and drive this car back.

krousdb 11-21-2006 06:43 AM

I am about 2.5-3 hours from Charlotte. I will also be in Pittsburgh for Christmas.

smithenhiven 11-21-2006 08:33 AM

Cool, send me a PM when you're in town, I'd like to come take a look at it.

krousdb 11-25-2006 07:11 AM

No offers yet. I will prolly put it on Craigslist and Auto Trader and see what happens. If no one here or at CMPG are interested, I will sell the SuperMid separately.

I only have about $750 on me at the moment. :( He said, "best offer", but I don't think he mentioned anything about letting someone steal it.:p

I'll meet you in Pittsburgh next month.:D But seriously, I think it's worth closer to the $3000 you have invested in it. I only wish I had that much so I could make you a serious offer.

krousdb 11-25-2006 12:02 PM

You have too many cars Larry. Why not sell one of them?

FormulaTwo 11-25-2006 01:08 PM

I will drive out and pick up the supermid at any time. :)
just name your price

Hmm, how about a trade for my '78 F-250?:p Just call it an extreme hypermiling challenge. If you got it up to 17 mpg you would achieve a 70% increase.

GasSavers_Jack 11-27-2006 06:30 AM

Dan, Did you sell this thing yet?

I may be interested.

If the buyer wasn't interested in it, then I will keep that in mind. I would want $150.

Dan, Thanks for the quick reply. Will wait to hear back from you with the good news. :) Thanks again, Al

krousdb 12-05-2006 04:05 PM

Sold!

MetroMPG 12-05-2006 04:52 PM

Anyone we know?

GasSavers_Jack 12-06-2006 05:19 AM

Good for you Dan. I hope you got at least close to what you wanted for it. In a way I am happy it sold because I was wanting to swap mine for one that worked right and you selling it save me trying to talk the wife into it.

Anything that prevents you from having to "talk the wife into it," whatever 'it' may be, is a good thing. :)

OH so true!

MakDiesel 12-06-2006 10:32 AM

I can only imagine once I'm married how that is going to be...I rarely buy anything for myself except that when I do, it's usually a few grand. (car, laptop, shop tools, etc) Every purchase I make will have to go through the wife-lock. Mak

Thanks Dan! Looking forward to getting at least CLOSE to your mileage with it. Will check my schedule and call you to arrange the details.

Should be interesting what another member gets with that car.
