Hey, everybody
Hi, I have been interested in good mpg since I started driving, gas was only $.50 a gallon back then. ( ya I'm old) anyway this is a cool site, I finally found some people that share a common interest.
current vehicles 94 f-150...... 2000 merc sable. I have given up all hope of getting good mileage from the truck but, the merc has some potential, at least on the highway. (Stupid auto tranny). I have a scan gauge and have been messing around with fuel adds, different oils and a fuel warmer. so far my best mpg (full tank) is 34.5, Hope to learn a few new things here. |
Welcome ELF!

ELF, you don't want to know how old you have to be to remember 20 cents a gallon. Good to have you here. ScanGauge wakes you up, doesn't it.
3-4 years ago I had a Sable wagon, loaded. Never got better than 25 MPG. You have made a very good improvement over that. See ya around. Consider entering your car info in GS Garage. Also Gaslog info. |
You're getting better than my fully-loaded automatic 06 toyota matrix. those things are heavier than the fully-loaded 5speed corollas by 300 pounds or so :(. weird because the corolla is longer.... then again the matrix is wider and stiffer.
Anyways, i'm new here too, so nice to meet you ELF. Is your sable a GS or the LS premium model? |
Wow nice job!

The f-150 is a 5.8 ext. cab long box 4x4 auto, really tough to get good mileage, 12.5 city 15 hwy is the norm, had a few tanks 16+ mpg, but need perfect weather and a tail wind for that.
The sable is the LS, It doesn't have all the options though. All I cared about was the nice aluminum wheels that come on the LS. |
Welcome to the board, ELF. It's good to see another GasSavers Member from the Minneapolis area! I live in the suburb of Champlin, about 8miles NW of downtown Minneapolis.

Yep, 16mpg would be good for that truck. I'm guessing you tried tire pressure, and driving under 60mph. I guess I like a challenge. You could always aero mod it. |
Welcome ELF -
You're already a Hypermiler, in the winter. And with so many mods left to make! CarloSW2 |
