87.5 is about right - probably 87.9 though (it is always 0.9).

I can assure you that he would have probably gone at 70mph (slow for motorways here), probably flooring it up hills and braking down hills. Also, the traffic in kent and up to london would have probably been horrendous, worsening the MPG, with an hour or two minimum in stationary traffic.

But he got 60mpg (Imp), when I get 50mpg for long journeys these days :)

Nice detective work Metro

Probably just another example of a great little car that the USA will never see.

Nice car

Can you imagine the numbers you could get hypermile'n one of those!!! No batteries required!!

MetroMPG 03-06-2007 10:19 AM

Landspeed: 50 mpg is pretty darned good, if that's the way the car was driven. Mine would have returned low-mid 40's mpg (US) in those conditions.

Ya that seems low. If I run 60mph I get 60mpg and 70mph I get about 50mpg so I would find it hard to believe the lupo with the 1.3L would get worse mileage then my much larger 3200lb wagon with the 1.9L in it.

The lowest CO2 output of any car is the new Model 451 (2007) smart fortwo cdi, which only a couple of weeks ago was homologated (EC approved) at 88 grams of CO2 per km, two less than the outgoing model, which was officially rated at 90 g/km in the EU cycle.

The VW BlueMotion produces 102 g/km of CO2.....not even close.....my car is already at 103 g/km, in everyday use.........(see spritmonitor icon in my signature)

this VW is the Polo, not the Lupo, I'm pretty sure that the Polo is sold here as the Golf, recently re-renamed as the Rabbit, the Emition systems like the Bluemotion are part of the reason that we now have low sulpher diesel, altho everyone elese had low sulpher diesel years ago, it meens that diesel vehicles don't have to be reengenered to meet lower standerads.

I don't think the polo is sold as the new rabbit...the polo is the lupo's big brother and I think we would've seen something more than 25 mpg or less than 2.5L out of it when it was imported, since it is an economy car in europe.

my mistake
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Polo_Mk_IV
has a bit of info on the polo.
