Low Flow Shower head
 

I just put one in yesterday. It is very basic and was under $5. It is rated at 2.5 gallons per minuet and has a quick shut off switch. I really don't think it is bad at all, but some of the other people in the house are complaining about it. I was wondering if there any flow flow shower heads you guys have used or can recommend.

Why are they complaining about it? Actually, how much is water these days?

My showerhead in the basement is as old as the hills, but I only partially turn on the water anyway. Otherwise it's real loud and I run out of hot water quickly!

Are they complaining about volume? Or pattern? I'm willing to bet on the pattern as that head looks rather focused :p I have a low flow head that has a more dispersed pattern which I really don't mind :) Then again, I take cool showers because I'm a tightwad and quick showers because I like to conserve water :D

My sister was saying that the water was warm at the top, but the droplets are so small that they lose some heat on the way down.

I think the shower has that "motel shower" feel to it (probally because it is the exact same shower head as many motels).

I like a strong shower head - the one currently in my bathroom is too weak.

How do they work anyhow? Is it a nozzle? A diffuser?

our low flow head like that got cloged with lime and stoped working a few years back, so we ended up getting a slightly larger, but still 2.5-3 gallon per minut head, and kept the shut off valve, the valve is nice as it alows you to turn off the water without loosing your temp setting.

If the head makes a lot of mist instead of a stream that breaks into droplets, then it will definitely lose a lot of heat.

We have an adjustable head and when it is on the mister setting, you can set it on full hot, move away from it, and still feel like it is not warm enough.

So I would say to look for one that makes little streams of water. Those seem to keep the heat longer.

You should check the actual flow rate of the shower head at the setting that you use it at by catching the water coming out of it into a bucket. Back home we have such low water pressue we can't get more than a gallon of water a minute of of an open faucet much less from a shower head. A friends house with well water has the pump pressure set to 80psi and the shower head HISSES water out so fast you can't even see it and at full flow it hurts.

Yeah the bottom of the shower doesn't even get wet when you run the hot water it just vaporized on the way down and blows damp air out the open shower door!
