Festiva Aerodynamics

Just got done with a rough grille block. Decided to angle it from bumper to hood. I went with a partial as not to overheat this summer.

Also added are Wheel/Tire Deflectors/Tabs.

Still working towards 50mpg!!!

.

Your getting close! I advanced my timing on my festiva, then used higher octane gas. Got more power and better mileage. 50 mpg was no problem, but had to keep the speed down to 60mph or less.

Last two tanks, I have been keeping the speed under 60mph.
I Haven't touched the timing yet. Thanks, after this tank I will :)

Pic now posted.
I'm not sure if I am going to keep it like it is (really stands out) or just cover the grille 'flush'. I guess it depends on my mpg this tank! ;)

Festivas seem to get 35-40 without trying too hard.

New EPA rating 30/37 - 33 combined mpg
(Old EPA 35/41 38 combined mpg)

Festivas are a rarity around my area ( Metro's on the other hand though! Wow I didn't know they made that many LOL) I rather like the new grill block you've done . If it were me I'd leave it .

just a thought, if you are not planing on filling in the gap on the sides of the grill block then why not go all the way across? i know that you are thinking of cooling but there should be enough at speed and when you are stopped the fan should be able to pull it in from the sides. same with the one on the bottom. my .02

May try it. Nervous to do so though...don't want any overheating in traffic. Plus, what is the trade off in regards to the electric fan running more (additional load of the alternator running more)? Any thoughts?

On mine I cut a couple slots in the grill block that I keep clear packing tape over. If it is really hot and I get paranoid about overheating then I pull one or both off. I haven't had any problems with the engine getting hotter than normal. Even on 90 degree days. I forgot to tear off the tape one day leaving work on a mid 80 degree day and still had no problems.

I've thought about that too and wish I had an indicator on the dash so I can tell when the fan comes on, then I'd know if the grill block is pushin the fan alote. In slow city driving it seems like the fan load would be higher than the aero gains.

jwxr7 I though you had a SG. Mine comes on at 211 degrees. I run around 200-205 when moving.
