Horn kinda sucks
The horn on my 99 civic kinda sucks. It's weak. On my last car the other person didn't even hear my horn before he hit me. I'd like something with more oomph. I was thinking will the horn from the 05 accord fit my car? My dad has a 05 accord and whenever he presses it, it gets attention.

Switch them and find out ! :D

Train horn :P

that's nice and everything but I don't want to carry a compressor in my trunk and I like my orange juice to come out when I'm peeing, not through the bullet hole in my stomach.

whatever

I'll look into my dad's car and see if it's a close fit.

i love f-150 horns there awsome
|
lol i have 4 airhorns. those get attention real fast! my truck stock used to haev 2 horns one high tone one low. i liekd the sound and it was loud but kinda wimpy sounding. anyhting from any other thing can fit your car if you have mechanical know how and know how to cut, strip, and crimp wires...

If you have a junkyard near you try to find one for an Accord or Odyssey. OR you can just order one from Majestic Honda for about 28 bucks.
|
Your horn sucks? That's your first problem.
Horns are supposed to blow. |
The Metro could use a new horn. It sounds like a clown car.
|
do you guys have a ahrbor freight near you? if you do they have some pretty cheap airhorns/regular electronic horns i think thier like 130 somehitng db
|
Just go to your parts store and get a low and high tone horns and wire them in. I put a low tone on my 06 civic soon as I got it home.
|
I REALLY would love to put a train horn on my car like in that youtube video. They're just so damn expensive.

Old siren/horn
If you can find an old electronic police or fire siren -- they almost always come with a "Horn" feature (watch the show COPS or listen the next time a similar vehicle passes and you'll hear what I mean).
I had one wired into the horn button when I ran volunteer Fire/EMS. Basically it consisted of a control unit (including a knob for selecting different siren tones), wiring (you could setup an easy push-button, or wire up a horn switch relay if the unit is equipped), and a speaker (I used a 100-Watt variety with a large bell housing). It's been a while, but I bet the old stuff can go pretty cheap on eBay. Of course, you'd have to disable the sirens or expect some trouble. As far as effectiveness, it was loud and different enough to get the attention you needed. Not sure about the laws of its use in CA. RH77 |
my air horns I got for $59 from https://stores.ebay.com/Siege-Engineering-Equipment they were called hammer3
I used an old aluminum fire extinguisher for the air tank and a heavy duty truck tire pump from harbor freight for $39 on sale. I used a few fittings and hoses from the hardware store to tie it all together with a 150psi pressure regulator from the same hardware store. I have less than $150 total in it. I used a smaller sized fire extinguisher tank that fit in the front bumper and is very quick to fill up from empty so the compressor doesn't stay on for long. It is a pretty nice setup and nobody can ever say they don't hear my horn anymore :D |
Coyote X - the sound clip for the Hammer 4 is amazing! Would you say yours sounds like a train? With that size tank, how long can you sustain the horn?

My stock horns took a crap on me, couldn't make a peep. So I got a couple of horns from JC Whitney (jcwhitney.com). They have a good selection. I settled on one 130db hi tone and one 130db low tone, part #'s MR710714 and MR710716 for $14 each. The two different tones compliment each other well, and it's much louder than stock. They also fit like stock and are easy to wire in. They also list a 140db horn, train horn, ocean liner horn, air horns, and novelty horns!

With the air tank I can prob hold 10 seconds on a blast then take 20 seconds or so to recover(air pressure and hearing). I don't really see any possible reason to hold it for 10 seconds though 3-5 sec is way more than enough. Usually I can get two short 1 second blasts before the compressor kicks on for a few seconds to refill the tank.
I don't think anyone would ever really need a bigger tank than that just to run a horn. It does good and the whole setup fits under the hood of my metro. If you want realistic sound run 100psi but for super deafening loud run 150psi  I do think it is funny when I get stopped at a train crossing and my horn is louder than the train's. The conductor usually looks at me like I am nuts for putting something like that in a metro :p |

went on their website but couldn't find the horns. |
Accord? I dunno, maybe the new ones are better, but my 94 has a weak "meep meep" metric car sound. Now my 1967 Buick had a HORN on it. I tried to hook that baby up to my 360 Honda, and it killed it when I pushed the button, LOL!

The 2000 and newer accords and odysseys have reeeelllly good BEEEEEEEEP horns.

My Swift has a set of air horns from Harbor Freight that cost $8.50. Very loud.

If you want a 134 dB airhorn that would be easy to install, look for the Nautilus horn. It is built all in one piece and supposedly has a relatively short delay. It has the italian sports car air horn sound.
|
When I upgrade horns I go to the local pick your part junkyard and find an older cadillac with the dual horns that ground through the mounting bolt. They have a green wire coming out of them as opposed to the ones with a green and black wire. These horns are super loud and have a nice low air horn like tone. My horn causes crazy/retarted drivers to swerve back into their lane now. Try it...they are cheap($5 here in phoenix for both horns)
