I think that they have been tried. You can search on "vortex generators".

I'm going to make something like that

After watching kitcar's videos, I got some ideas for my vehicle. I found the right siding at Home Depot, but forgot to get the measurements. I'm just going to make a simple air dam.

But it's fog light covers first.
