Volvo 240 High-MPG project car wins employee car show

A sign of the times perhaps?

My workplace decided to host a classic car show for employees.

My '89 245 MPG project car won first place!
Other entries included three or four 'Vettes, a 1929 Model T, and a Triumph Spitfire. Every one of those was far cleaner and far shinier than my car.

I was out there for a couple hours answering questions, showing printed materials and showing what I'd done to get 30-32 mpg highway from a car who's EPA numbers are 17/22.

I don't mean to gloat - sometimes you just have to share the good news!

Good job!

Nice goin', bruce! ....and they bowed down to the Swedish steel!!

On another note: I wonder what kind of FE the `29 Model T gets?

nice to see your hard work get noticed, you can be proud.

Good news isn't gloating. 2 years from now, if you're still talking about it, it might be.

:D

Just kidding!

Woohoo!....another ol' skool Volvo driver.

Welcome, luckychuckie. What year 244? Auto or manual?

luckychuckie 06-26-2007 07:25 AM

auto, but am hopefully getting a 5 speed wagon, I also had a 1980 244 gl from the west coast that I sold to my baby sitter, (regret that sale)I put a A/C bypass on, I could not tell if it helped

My parents had a 244DL that they bought new in 1975. It was a really durable car, as evidenced by not blowing up during my teen driving years. :-) It was not a fast car... They sold it when they bought an '84 t-bird for me to take to college. THAT was a mistake. The t-bird was a piece-o-junk. Oh, the Volvo was "Cumberland Yellow" which is swedish for "Pumpkin Orange". :-)
