Boat-tail on Insight & Prius in Photoshop

This is why they never came from the factory with them.
https://farm2.static.flickr.com/1262/...c4968ceb_o.jpg
and Here's another image of the Prius - dropped, nose extended, and another body line ( indention ) to get help balance the look of the car. The back of the car also has some blackout treatment to help. Also... it's not ...purple :)
https://farm2.static.flickr.com/1210/...791cf27b_o.jpg

Here it is in black :https://farm2.static.flickr.com/1371/...67191c3a_o.jpg

That last image is copyright and I can't remember who owns it.
Dude, if you do see this modified image ... please don't sue me !
I'm just bored !

Here's the Prius 'bobcat' short-tailed version : https://farm2.static.flickr.com/1141/...034073c4_o.jpg

As requested ... here is the Prius looking rather bloated and in funky purple :https://farm2.static.flickr.com/1236/...d2ee4dc1_o.jpg

And the Insight long tail :https://farm2.static.flickr.com/1376/...f4387fa6_o.jpg

Think about how much territory a 'Mary Kay' salesperson could cover in that Toyota.;)

And, Yes....I like the chops too!

Nerds laugh at me 06-30-2007 01:06 PM

I had no clue ...then ....

Oh I get it - the car looks pink ( - ish )

Perhaps I should make it brown since it looks like it just slid out the back end of ....

MnFocus 06-30-2007 01:27 PM

Nah it's just a lighter shade of Barney ;) (that is an official color name iddn it? )

Jim Dunlop 07-03-2007 04:13 AM

Nice work.

Be careful backing up into a crowd of people...you could poke someone's eye out with that boat tail.

brucepick 07-03-2007 07:38 AM

A very short person's eyes.
Probly a future driver.

Bill in Houston 07-03-2007 07:57 AM

On the upside, if you wanted to drive the car in a parade, the tail would be a great place for the Mayor or the pageant queen to sit...

Fuzzy5150 07-03-2007 08:31 AM

I'll take the Insight.......and I like the color!

repete86 07-03-2007 12:18 PM

I would love to drive an Insight like that.

WAYYYYY off topic here.... but ...... I'm old and all, but isn't 'probably' spellled 'probably' instead of 'probly'.
I'm asking due to the fact that I have seen 'proly' or 'probly' used enough to question whether I am using the right word.

MnFocus 07-03-2007 02:42 PM

It's all the same/same but for grammatical correctitude you are assuredly spot on . At least I think you prolly are ;)

An upright license plate could be within the body of the car under an angled plexiglass window.
( I guess I should have done a picture of that too. )
The black extentions under the boat-tail would be essentially larger versions of what the Prius already has below the rear bumper. They clean up the airfow behind the rear tires and make the car look less like a terd :)

MnFocus 07-03-2007 06:31 PM

LOL ! Sorry N.l.a.m. ... kind of a stab at "gun control" Do you have a permit for that . As a conceptual view the boat tail is fine without a license plate ;)

I do believe that you probably are correct in that "probably" is the correct spelling. :)
I indulged my temptation to use what seems to be developing into our vernacular.

I don't feel too bad about using "probly". I've also used "prolly". Personally, I draw the line at run on sentences and complete lack of punctuation. Posts containing such material occasionally get a rebuke from me.

basjoos 07-03-2007 07:13 PM

Technically, any sort of cover (clear, tinted, metal frame, or inside the back window) over a licence plate is illegal according to the local cops. Its one of those laws that isn't usually enforced (except when a bored town cop wants an excuse to pull me over so he can satisfy his curiousity about my funny looking car).

A well designed boattail can provide a lot of extra cargo area inside the boattail, especially in a small car like the Insight. That Insight boattail as depicted could be shortened about a foot without increasing drag.

MnFocus 07-03-2007 07:55 PM

You're telling me ? Even clear plate cover sold at *every* auto shop across the state are illegal . (It's not cheaper to just pay the fine either )

MnFocus 07-03-2007 08:15 PM

Just like switchblades ...legal to sell but the purchaser must not put it in the pocket ...then its a deadly weapon ! Yes by state statute we are "free" .
That plastic cover *may* prevent any occifer o' tha law from readin it .'specially if snow or dirt covers the plastic , let alone snow and dirt sticks better to the actual license plate much better ...

red91sit 07-04-2007 09:08 AM

I honestly dont' mind switch blades being illegal, No real use for such things is there?

Well ya never know when your going to need to fillet a fish at short notice!:)

Sure there's little use for a switch blade.. I mean, have you noticed how easy it is to flip open some of the single blade locking pocket knives? Plenty of them even have tiny thumb tabs just for this purpose it seems.

Telco 07-05-2007 05:39 AM

Plastic license covers usually cause cameras to not be able to see the license. How uptight the cops are about plastic covers will tell you how much they depend on cameras. In the states where they use photo radar, they will jump on you instantly for having the tag covered, because they know that you'd be able to speed past their photo radar and they wouldn't be able to get money off you.

( That was actually hard to type :p )

BTW folks, I showed these pictures to my ( very .... normal ) sister. Predictably, she thought they were the ugliest cars she had ever seen. She quickly forwarded a picture of one of those tear drop bicycle helments with a note that said " This is your helmet attire to wear with the car " :)

well in IL im not sure but if i remember right that the use of the plastic licene plate covers are now illegal, because of somehting someone mentioned above about photo radar. they also starting some new thing where there will be a photo box with a radar gun in IL work zones that if if it catches you speeding thru the workzone they will just mail you a ticket with a photo copy of the photo.

but i never did liek the looks of either car before, but they do lookinteresting photoshoped. excenelt work btw...ive tried messin with photoshop and its harder than it looks

In the Land of 10,000 Lakes being able to quickly fillet a fish saves time so you can get to the next lake.

It's not the point of the switchblade itself being legal or illegal . The point being they can be sold BUT Not possessed ?
Like the plate covers ...you buy them but do Not install them on the car ? C'mon ! At least we have a choice about buying gas ...or boattail Insights and Priu-ii . I'd drive either of those 'chops without a doubt .

VetteOwner 07-05-2007 06:23 PM

herese a fun thought its only legal till your caught with it...

lol same with window tint, they sell 5% and 2.5% yet here only 20% is legal. they most likey wouldnt pull you over for it, but if they wanna be an a$$ they can. or if you go thru one of those safety checkpoints where they check to see if you have license/registration/insurance they might warn you about it.

Nerds laugh at me 07-07-2007 07:07 PM

Doesn't the last image ( of the black Prius) remind you of the so called 'future cars' from old '80s movies ?
It looks so dated.
I wonder if it would look futuristic and new if our idea of a 'future car' back in the '80s really looked like todays SUVs - boxes.
Who would have guessed that styling would progress backwards?
( But then ... it always does, doesn't it ? Witness the return of the 'retro' styled iMac*, which looked like a 1950s television. )

( *the fruity colored ones )

Nerds laugh at me 07-07-2007 09:20 PM

Ha Ha ... now the Insight is purple.

Hey man ..it's my favorite color. ( Actually a more dignified sounding " Royal blue " )

tulsa_97sr5 07-07-2007 10:11 PM

I liked your original chops, could you add them back in to the first post? And off topic I have too add that after driving a hylander hybrid this week, I'm really starting to want a prius.

Retro style... Chevy HHR, PT Cruiser, to some degree the Mini Cooper and New Beetle...

Those 'shopped images are definitely "different," maybe even jarring at first glance (but then so's the stock Prius ;)). But after the shock passed I thought they weren't bad. Heck, I'd own one (reference the infamous .sig about dildo-shaped cars :p).

And talk about serious cargo space!

Rick

Rick

I wonder what the drag coefficient is on a dildo.
:D

If my car looked more like a dildo, I might have problems getting the crowds of women away from the ca...................................hey.......... .....wait a minute. Not a bad idea for a babe magnet eh ?

Plate Covers

Mythbusters did a test. You can't avoid having your plate photographed (at least by this system with a Canon 1d-s)
