Hi,all!strange 1.3 civic driver

Greetings to all!
Great site - been readin almost everything during the weekend.
I have a 5th gen honda civic with 1.3 motor designated as D13B2.
I'm gettin 56 mpg with no FE efforts and speeds from 55-65 mph, which
seems pretty strange to me.The car is carbed by the way and I have
a few other mods I've done myself.
Lowest mpg I got was 60(60.359 to be precise) but that was driving with
50-55 mph due to heavy fog almost all the way+a 10 minute 100 mph burst+2,3 minute 115 mph burst:)

Looking for ways to improve not only FE but emissions also and I found great
info on this site.
Thanks to all involved

Are you inside the USA?

GasSavers_TomO 07-02-2007 07:49 AM

I know that the Civic he is describing was never offered in the USA. I forgot the specific designation of model Civic, but he is most likely in one of the European countries.

Welcome to the site. Thats some pretty impressive numbers there :)

oops

Ooops,sorry guys.
I'm really from europe and the car is a EDM model.
I'm from a nice,small country called Bulgaria(that's eastern europe).

Pretty intersting bug that car is(at least for me).
It is a carbie with O2-sensor,VSS,MAP sensor, etc. and electronic control module.
I wouldn't call it a ECU,but it does calculate stuff in and out and gives you
error codes and all that.

Impressive nubers you say...hmm.
I did see now that MPG according to EPA is not MPG coverted directly from l/100km so converted to EPA's MPG maybe not so impressive.
Actual figures are average 5l/100km(thats driving with no effort, poking in my nose and driving:) ) and lowest is 4.68l/100km under the descirbed circumstances above.

Began turning the engine off now on downhills, but still no result as tank is still nearly full.

well, If I'm not mistaken, there was a 1.3L First Gen CRX HF in the US wasn't there?

what part of bulgaria? i had the fortune to vist the cities of PYCE and VARNA.

I really liked seeing all the old skodas(seriously i did).

your gas mileage is still pretty good.

yes there was a 1.3l hf here in america (83?).

1984 was the last year that honda sold a 1.3L engine in the US (it was also the first year of the 3rd generation of civics), the base modle civic hatch back and the crx 1.3 (other option was labled as the 1.5) came with a 1.3L engine, the 2nd generation civic also came in a FE trim leavle with a 1.3L engine in the last two years of it's production, off the top of my head I don't remember the exact details of earlier stuff.

Small world:)
I live about 100kms(~60 miles) from PYCE in a city called Tarnovo(to pronounce it right I have to spell it like "Turnovo").
When have you been in Bulgaria?
With every day now it gets harder to see the old cars(I men really old-like the skodas),but still you can see some no problem.

Welcome. I've been thinking about a 1.3L with a D15z1 head and pistons with a piggy-backed P07 ECU...should be pretty fuel efficient.
