Chevrolet Europe will present a new Aveo hatchback, featuring a more efficient engine, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, (13 to 23 September 2007).

There is a choice of two gasoline engines: a new 1.2-liter unit with an output of 84 hp (63 kW), and the existing 1.4-liter engine, which now develops 98 hp (73 kW) and is available with an automatic transmission.

Sales of the new model will start in March 2008.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this looks like the old Aveo with a new nose (possibly to meet the Euro pedestrian safety standards).

Anyone want to bet on whether North Americans will see either of those smaller motors?

...and to suit the american market, GM will be introducing a revised "Iron Duke" 2.5 liter pushrod four cylinder rated at 68hp...

Seriously, I hope they don't screw this one up also.

Yeah I think everything is the same except the nose and the vent thing by the side mirror. Even the hood looks identical.

Incase you didn't know the 2008 US aveo has been redesigned to look more like a large car.

MetroMPG -

I think the nose is trying to look like the VW Rabbit nose crossed with SUV aggression and/or the Opel Astra nose.

CarloSW2, I think you're onto something there. More than a few of the latest crop of smaller cars (production & concept) out of (or in partnership with) Detroit have had very "truckish" looks to them:

- Dodge Caliber
- Dodge Hornet concept
- 2 of the 3 microcars GM showcased at the last NY Auto Show
- and now, the Aveo's rhinoplasty

I can't help but think it's some kind of design strategy meant to "train" consumers to continue to accept actual trucks as transportation options.

Sort of Audi-ish...

That's it. I just noticed the "pencil thin" chrome accent around the grill. I'll bet it would be soooooooo easy to fudge this car into looking like an Audi from head-on.

Mighty fine space for a grill block

Totally...

Compare it to the new Malibu, and the old mini vans. It's the new design and yes heavy on the truck grill look.
