Toyota MPG display - instantaneous?
My 4Runner has a panel-mounted display that displays, among other things, MPG (see photos of "FourRunner"). I have tried pressing buttons in different combinations till the cows come home, however, and all I can get it to display is average MPG. I press the "Mode" button and it cycles through the options, but only average MPG.
Somebody mentioned that it can also display instantaneous MPG: I am wondering if that's something you have to specifically enable - via secret button combination, jumpers, dip switches, etc - as a "safety" issue. I.e., so Toyota doesn't get sued because you spend all your time looking at the gauge and run into the car in front. |

Do you have an owners manual? |
No owner's manual
Unfortunately, I do not. Car didn't come with one. I have to get hold of one, maybe off eBay.

If you reset it, wouldn't the first readout be instant? I guess it would be a pain to always reset it, but it might give you a better figure.

Ya, but he would wear out his reset button... :-)
Gary, I guess you might be forced to join a 4runner group or something like that... Good luck... Or, like you said, find a manual somewhere... |
Get on the Yota site. Register on a owners link if they have one. Then see if you can DL a .pdf of the owners manual.

Far as I know 4Runners don't have that kind of a trip computer installed, though you could do this if you are handy with electronics

According to the 2003 4Runner owners manual only average MPG, based on distance driven and gas consumed until reset, can be displayed.

Have you thought about the good old SG2?
