I don't usually give a rat's *** about styling, but I think that rear 3/4 view is very nice! (The front is a little less so, IMO).

It's based on the also good looking (I think) Mazda2 platform:

The most notable thing about the 2 is that Mazda made a concerted effort in weight reduction on this model, and got the 1.3L version down to just 955 kg / 2105 lbs. Imagine if the North American Fiesta was close to that!

If I remember correctly, this will be offered in a diesel configuration in addition to the regular petrol version. A lightweight diesel is about the only thing that could convince me to buy another American car.

I'm sure the US market won't see this in a diesel. Diesel + sub compact + hatchback = 3 strikes to the majority of US consumers, from what I've read.
