Your most effective FE inspired modification
Besides driving habit changes, what do you feel was the most effective modification you've made to your vehicle, in terms of FE gains?

converting to a stick shift and installing a kill switch and a scangauge.

Raised tire pressure

Improvement in FE @ approx 55 mph:

Installing a Tripminder computer.
Instant FE gauge for all EEC-IV Fords! |

For the year, it's the extreme temp mods that help.
First and foremost: The Engine Block Heater... When it's 10.0F, the engine is warm, and closed loop is not far away. Couple that with a grille block, and IATs/coolant temps are nominal. FE improvement follows. Second, constant feedback -- the ScanGauge in particular. A simple feedback mod keeps the driver informed on how to be most efficient. To keep a "Top 3" perspective: tire choice and high tire pressures help. LRR's with high pressures reduce friction -> increase FE. RH77 |
the thing that gave me biggst FE improvements was blocking off my egr valve on my truck and on my car im not too sure, too many factors. but tire pressure did help( i dont know what its supposed to be cuz the tire psi sticker is too faded to read. but thier at 33psi right now on new M+S tires

I havent done much yet but Id say weight removal, upped tire pressure, aero, in that order
|
Tire pressure is the most bang for you buck. $0 = a few mpg (if your tires are a bit low).
Not using AC. I would say aero mods if you drive mostly in the +60mph range. |
I saw a drastic improvement with upping the psi in my tires. Followed up by removing weight.
