10 Ways to Boost Your MPG

I did a search and didn't see it anywhere, so here goes!

Yes, no amazing revelations to those who congregate here, but reading the comments section might be fun. ;)

#1 - Drive efficiently!

Coast uphill so you can coast back down? WTF, that makes no sense..

I dont know about you guys, but every parking lot around this area has atleast one, if not many, stop signs. I cant get a "coast" through a parking lot.

is 10 seconds for killing your engine a little too short?

SVOboy 09-14-2007 10:33 AM

Perhaps, unless you're coasting into a spot in a parking lot, :p

I almost bought the 05 VP way back when, how's it working out?

I'd say depends on whether you're key starting or roll-starting.

And the engine's fuel system...

I would think that #1 is taking long frivolous country drives by yourself! ;-)

I was gonna say, because automatic...I definately can't bump start that.

Yeesh! Talk about aggression!

They do raise some good points though, some hypermileing techniques (like I've been using lately) often aren't safe. Drafting, going slow (60 mph slower than the average speed! Not the speed limit on the sign, average daytime speed on I-91 is 80, if you P&G down to 20mph...eek!), not maintaining a constant speed in traffic, are great ways to inspire road rage.

Of course I work nights, I rarely see another car on my commute after labor day, still even the minimum speed (40mph) is 40mph less than the average speed. That really doesn't allow enough reaction time for overtaking vehicles that are taking an important call while eating a cheeseburger while dealing with the kids...

"The real speed isn't the numbers on the speedometer, it's the speed of the other cars on the road..." David Byrne, The Catherine Wheel
