Hello GasSavers,

My name is Sam and I just signed up. I often look on this site and see all of the amazing gas mileage numbers you have and just decided to join up. There are also many great ideas and projects on this site and I have learned alot. I used to have a 99 Honda Civic HX Coupe which was great on gas. For some dumb reason I traded it in and got a 02 Acura RSX Type S. Now that I dont have that car any more, I'm desperatly looking to get a 92-95 Civic VX or CX. Thats my short bio.

Nice to meet you all and hope to gain more knowledge about MPG and get a VX or CX. Really a VX. lol:D

Not sure how you could regret owning an RSX Type S, but yeah.. getting good MPG is fun too. I was feeling particularly happy with my car today for some reason and really had an urge to let her rip a little, despite trying to get 65mpg this tank. The VX is no slouch by any stretch. For some reason today was very difficult to drive for FE. Mighta been the music I was listening to or the fact I gave a dreaded speech in school today and was very glad for it to be over. Anyway, red lined it through the first three gears. Car feels wholly overpowered for something that is trying to save gas! :D I mean, in daily driving I never have to go over 1800RPMs, except maybe 1st gear on a hill.

So too many tickets with the RSX? I mean, that car has to be oodles of fun to drive!

Good luck on your quest...

General question, would a Del Sol make a great high FE project car?

Welcome to the forum! what kind of mpg were you getting in the HX?

If you drop a D15Z1 in it sure. :) What's the curb weight of the Del Sol? 2301lbs. It's just over 200 pounds heavier than a VX. But you put on the VX wheels and dunno if the VX motor and transmission is lighter than the Del Sol's but you could get the weight close enough to the VX I imagine.

Oh, no doubt, the Type S was loads of fun. I had it for about a year. Hitting V-Tech in that thing was a blast. The gas mileage wasn't bad either. I was in the 31-34mpg range. For a 200hp car, that was great. I just couldn't afford the payments anymore. I did get puylled over one time doing 81 mph in a 45 mph zone. The 99 HX that I had traded in for the RSX was getting me at least 40 mpg. That car was sweet too. It was silver and the only mod I had was it was lowered 2 inches. The ride still felt close to factory, just more firm.

I'm amazed that the HX was only less than 10mpg better than the RSX. So what are you driving now?

smccall 09-24-2007 07:12 PM

Yeah there was time where I was being really aware of my fuel usage and I would shift low and not drive fast. Thats when I saw those numbers in the RSX. Normally it was 28-30 mpg. The HX was actually mid 41-45 depending on how i drove. I have a F-150 so I'm in need of a really fuel efficient vehicle.

The cx really isn't all that bad of a car, so you might be better off getting one if you're looking at a several month search for a vx. You might also consider getting a cheap cx/dx/crx something as a beater while looking for the perfect vx so you don't feel rushed to buy.

Welcome to the site.

Welcome to GS! You are already on the right car path. Honda HX's are great!

There's at least one Del Sol in the Garage that was getting something like 60 MPG with massive aero mods before he sold it. Here it is :
