Toyota Volta Concept

I didn't see it in a search - but likely old news anyway.

Looks like a hybrid Diablo!

Rick

P.S. On the off chance they're talking Imperial gallons it works out to a bit over 38MPG.

either way

Good catch, Rick

Either way it stinks...

You guys realize it has like 400 horsepower right? So 32mpg is a bit better than 10mpg.

Hahaha... well, I was sort of joking.... the thing does zero to sixty in four seconds! :D

But from most of our POVs it's the MPG figure that matters more than off-the-line performance. Unless you're into really aggressive P&G! :p

LOL -- I'm told that you can get low 30's/highway in a late-model Corvette. I guess it depends on the intent of the buyer...rubber burning performance by night combined with hypermiling by day

Honestly, for our small group, I'm sure it's one or the other...

I suppose it is a cool car

It gets people excited about the technology  Which, from a long term perspective, is important for people like us - that don't burn rubber by night :p

I agree, anything that gets folks excited about this stuff, or proves that performance and economy can coexist (where have I heard that before? ;) ) is good.

Hey RH77, now that zero-to-sixty-in-four-seconds and 400-horsepower have been highlighted and I disclaimed my less-than-32MPG comment as "mostly joking," I'll take a moment to point in the opposite direction.

Here is an article from 2006 about a hybrid that gets 50MPG.

And does zero to sixty in four seconds.

And has 350 combined horsepower.

And was built mostly thanks to high school students. :D

I'm looking forward to Toyota catching up. ;)

Rick

P.S. Project background info

1993CivicVX 10-05-2007 12:24 PM

prolly not up to the same emission standards of the Toyota.
