My long lost boat tail experiment pictures...

Alas, I wasn't able to do proper testing... And conditions were absolutely TERRIBLE:
1. It rained on the way home 2. I had to follow someone, both direction - someone that went really really fast (70-85mph) 3. Inconsistent traffic 4. Rain + speed made me loose some components :p So about 150 miles highway.... averaging ~75-80mph... mpg=41.5. Some a/c to battle windshield fogging.... Also into a headwind on the way up to my destination. When I dropped down to 55 for a few miles, I was getting 50, barely. https://www.gassavers.org/attachment....1&d=1193544539 https://www.gassavers.org/attachment....1&d=1193544526 This shows that the cardboard isn't adding any frontal area: https://www.gassavers.org/attachment....1&d=1193544530 After the rains - I needed to do some surgery. My average went down a little, but I used a lot more a/c. https://www.gassavers.org/attachment....1&d=1193544538 https://www.gassavers.org/attachment....1&d=1193544533 Evidence of nothing really - due to my inability to do any proper testing :/ But I've never had such good trip FE :D Lots of parental shock factor though :p |
I saw some of those pictures before, didn't I?
Going to abandon it forever? I think there is the possibility for something fairly attractive, perhaps FG to be made for the car. |

FG? It's not abandoned, just severely back burnered allong with my bat man waffle iron, Captain America shield from a disk sled, etc. This is pretty much my last free weekend for awhile - end of the semester grind is nye... |
Fibreglass! I think it would look sweet in CF but dunno if you have a CF setup going...

Oh boo, you could turn that jetta into a cool station wagon with a nice black CF boattail over the truck...and you could sell them! Think of the amazingness.

Re: My long lost boat tail experiment pictures...
your mileage would have been better if you added a bottom piece up from the bottom of the rear bumper... cool

Nice work!!! Thanks for sharing. Coroplast is inexpensive ( all mine is free, recycled election signs ) and much more durable than cardboard. Just a thought.
best wishes, L&S |
