Great Boards, Thanks for The Welcome

Hi Everybody,

When I can't ride my bike (35mi. through L.A. to work, at night) I drive a 1994 Acura Integra RS. Owned it since 1994, has 240,000 mi. and runs strong. The last few years I increased my MPG by at least 30% by changing my driving habits (and pissing-off other L.A. drivers). I drive almost exclusively on the HWY getting about 30-31 MPG. I would like to do better. Yesterday I started the "pulse and glide" technique for my commute, I can't say if it is working yet, I'll know in a few more days. But my Integra has an automatic transmission, so I don't know if P&G is effective for cars with auto trans.

I would like to start looking at the "modification" side of hyper-miler-ing. Although I will be searching these boards, I would appreciate hearing from any other Integra owners about their modifications. Also about DIY maintenance upgrades (replacement thermostats, censors, etc.).

Thanks Again!

Love to talk about my bike(s)! For most errands I use my late eighties vintage Specialized Stumpjumper, converted fixie, running semi-slicks (I go off-road whenever possible). I also use a late nineties vintage Schwinn LeTour (nothing that would hurt to much if stolen). For the trails nearby, 2004 Turner 5-Spot. For cruising with the wife, a 2006 Townie. That's it for now, but there is a real road bike, a 29'r hardtail, and a cyclocross in the not to distant future. :)

Hmm, I've always been tempted to get a letour for no particular reason...right now I'm poking around for some cheap japanese steel to go fixie with.

EDIT: here's my new bike: https://www.gassavers.org/showthread.php?t=5505

Welcome fellow 'Teg driver.

BTW, do you have an automatic? I leveled-off at 31 for quite a while and ended up relying on both mods and technique.

I've found that the engine operation is most efficient when hot -- intake air, coolant, engine block heater, etc. Use the torque to get up to speed and monitor that ScanGauge (if you have one -- if not, get one!).

Any pics? Update the Garage and Gaslogs when you have the chance. Best FE to ya...

Damn I don't envy you. I went down to L.A. this summer and got to do the L.A. Highway thing again. I always forget how many cars you guys have. I do a 10 mile commute every day in Calgary 5:30am traffic. Sometimes I hit 2 red lights sometimes none. 60% of the time I'm first at the light because there are no other cars out. 12-18 min depending on lights.

Huckabee -

Welcome to GS! Yes, we share the disaster of LA traffic. If I see you're slow-poke Integra on the freeway, I will follow it to create a "snail convoy". They can't get mad at me because you're the one driving slow, and they can't honk at you because I'll be behing you, ;) !

If your Integra is a 1994, then a ScanGauge won't work on it.
