GasSavers, CleanMPG, and PriusChat mentioned on ABC's Nightline

Tonight (November 7th, 2007) A story was done on Wayne Mitchell, a hypermiler. During the story brief shots of CleanMPG, PriusChat, and GasSavers were shown as examples of resources.

Popimp's signature was actually used to display the logo of GasSavers, from this thread:

Does Coasting In Neutral Work?

Check out the story here:

I'm confused. The Nightline video has a November 7th date stamp (yesterday), but the web article is dated November 8th (today). Sooooooo, which is right? Are they both right?!?!?!?!

Ok, it was on tonight. My wifey recorded it for me (I'm at work). She said it featured a Prius.

I'm happy that we hit x-million pairs of eyeballs, but I wish they had shown a non-hybrid Hypermiler getting good MPG too.

I'm in Vegas right now -- and just caught it on the Tele...

Bummer that they started with CMPG, and gave GS all of 1/2-second. But the website might help. Good coverage on the lifestyle, though...

I figured it out at this sentence :

Quote:

"Yes, Peter was born first, it was at 1:32 a.m. [Sunday]," mother Laura Cirioli told WRAL-TV in Raleigh, N.C. And Allison was born 34 minutes later.
At first I thought it was some kind of messed-up scesarian thing.

them starting on CMPG didn't bother me as much as them not mentioning either CMPG or GS by name. but ya know... it's still free press.

Would still be interesting to watch the logs and see if it gets Gassavers more visitors.

Do you think they got my good side? They called me Wednesday afternoon to see if I was interested. I told them to contact Wayne Gerdes (xcel) also and they said they left a message. Wednesday evening they called home and said they wanted to do it Thursday morning at 5AM. Thursday they come at 5AM, get the inside shots, outside shots and off we (myself, reporter, camerman and equipment) go on my ride to work. Once parked some more footage and then I'm picked up after work, cameraman rides home with me for additional footage. And it's on Nightline 4 hours later!

All in all it wasn't bad. I did point out CleanMPG and GasSavers for the MPG tips and PriusChat for the Prius. And the 62.8 MPG I pulled in the morning was going to be a 70+ trip, traffic and the car were in perfect alignment. But I had to do some extra starts for the footage. And we stopped about 3-4 times so the cameraman and reporter could switch positions or vehicles. In the afternoon on the way home, sans block heater plug-in, I pulled a 67.9 MPG. But why show the better results. Some of the reason for, what I thought, the good video was the cameraman and sound guy were the same crew that were at the Hybridfest MPG challenge shooting for Good Morning America.

I thought it was a very well balanced report. The producer contacted me the other day looking for someone to interview. The closest we could find to Chicago on such short notice was 1.5-2 hours away, so obviously they went with the closer person.

The news story generate some traffic. It's busier today than it normally is by 9:00am, so hopefully it will generate a bit more interest in all of the fuel economy sites.

I too am always amazed how quickly the TV crews can edit a story together. When I was filmed on a local TV station for the news, it was on the air 2 hours after they left my house. Hats off to the editors. :)
