New member with a Cressida

Spotted this in someone's sig in another forum I frequent and figured I'd stop by. maybe find a few tricks to use on my new engine when it goes in.

Now: I've got a toyota Cressida luxury sedan with the stock 3l and 5-speed manual trans swapped in.

Future: The new engine is a Lexus 2JZGE...still a 3l I6 but reengineered for another 40hp out of the same mileage and displacement. It'll use a standalone aftermarket computer and 5-speed manual trans.

Nice. 2JZ is a nice motor. I wasn't a fan of the Cressidas at first, but they grew on me. 5 speed should be a lot of fun. If it were my car, I'd end up sliding the heck out of it, but that wouldn't help with gas mileage :(.

I'd love a dumped wagon. :D

that's part of the reason for the 2jz :-D the other reason is that the current engine has blown rings, valve stem seals, and I'm used to the power...need more. basically I'm not willing to push the engine hard enough to slide on dry pavement, though it can if you really want to. only on a track of course.

it slides in the rain certainly, nothing but sliding in the snow. nothing like tapping the gas so the rear end slides down the crown and you go down the street sideways. at night with no traffic of course.

Welcome! Wow  !! A cressida. . .I haven't heard of that car since 1996. (OK, I'm older than I look ;) ) I've never seen a 5-spd in a cressida, wow. Definitely a nice luxury car at the time. Plus you are going to put a lexus engine in it. That's going to be a mean a@# car:D . Make sure you post some pics.

That's because this generation of Cressida was never offered with a 5-speed. 5-speed was a (VERY rare) option up till 87. As for the engine, I think of it as a supra engine more than a lexus engine....same difference tho. A little work and tuning on the 2jz engine and it could see 30 mpg easy with no body/aero mods and 200 hp to the wheels. (open intake, better manifold, headers, nice 2.25" exhaust, etc)
