Rear wheel skirt material ???

What is the best and the cheapest material for rear wheel skirt? I was thinking about plastic storage container (those what you can buy in Walmart).

Coroplast...it's free after campaign season. It's also cheaper to get an 4' x8' sheet from a sign shop than one container from walmart.

if ya need somehitng a bit more sturdy (maybe? i dunno, just another option) you can go to lowes, home depo, etc and get a roll of roof flashing. very thin sheet of aluminum. comes in a 10 ft roll and 14 inches wide. i made my grill block out of this. since its very thin and aluminum its very light. (its about as thin as a soda can wall) but wont melt or burn if it gets near hot things.

I second the aluminium, although I went with 0.6mm thickness. If you have a silver car, you might not even want to paint it.

I used foamboard and red duck tape.

In my opinion, I think the roof flashing is kinda too thin for wheel skirt. It's very easy to damage and more prone to dents as well. I have grill block made out of this stuff and so far no problems.

Which is why you should use some sort of adhesive foam strip under the metal/bodywork interface.

OR... get a car so cheap you don't care about resale value, and go nuts.

That's the direction I went. Unfortunately I don't think it matters since 90% of my driving is at 40 mph or less. I just need to keep the holiday tree hauling to a minimum. ;)

wooden bathroom panel

I've found in my basment old sheet of old bathroom wall panel. It looks like thick(3mm) wooden laminated cardboard. Do you guys think I could use that for my wheel skirts?

Snax 12-02-2007 06:11 PM

That stuff will rot and fall apart in very little time.

I used glass reinforced sshower panel from Home Depot. You can also find thinner more flexible panels in the same area.

What's the price range? Thanks for a good idea

I am going to guess a bit. It has been a couple months. The flimsy stuff is less than $20 for a 4x8 sheet. The glass reinforced stuff is about $30. A hand sheet metal shears can cut the thicker reinforced stuff but it is a bit of work and can scratch your hands. I made the rough cuts with a rechargeable circular saw.
