100 MPG out of a Hummer H1
 

What do you guys think of this:

This guy claims to get 100 MPG out of converted hummers. The article talks about:

- Benefits of diesel vs. gasoline engines (Good)
- Use of natural gas diesel dual fuel vehicles (OK)
- Use of diesel/hydrogen dual fuel vehicles (Sketchy... efficiency claim doesn't make sense to me).
- Use of 'supercapacitor' batteries for hybridization. The engine fully charges the batteries in 'seconds' (Bad...)
- Super quite engine due to the lubricating properties of vegetable oil (Very bad)
- Big conspiracy at the auto manufacturers to not use any of this technology (Very very bad).

Am I missing something, or is this assessment about right?

I don't know if it's a conspiracy for a business to make a decision.

What technical experience is available to the public to maintain a turbine engine? What regulations are there in place currently for sound levels, etc. for turbine engines? Certainly, it could run on a lot of things besides biodiesel, but what would be the cost of everything in an assembled package after R&D, EPA, DOT issues were overcome?

Probably a cool personal project, but as a replicatable, street level, consumer item, it seems like one would have to get investors and work that risk on your own.

Would you invest?

If you could make a 100 mpg Hummer then one could make a 500 mpg mid size or compact car.

What maintenance?

No, I would not invest without some validation of claims first. Something of this scale could easily be verified independently, and a 100mpg hummer should be verified independently.

Seriously, this one is on the same scale as telling the average guy he can grow a 4 foot penis.

It's states 18mpg from a diesel conversion. Also included a 5 speed manual. Same as other 1 ton trucks that get 18mpg. Nothing new. Nice to have the $$ to play and get paid. Nothing I couldn't do if I had the cash.

The batteries mentioned do exist. Freakin expensive! Same used in the Kilacycle.
So perhaps he's thinking of a high speed generator / high amps to recharge the battery array. Like I said, if you got the $$$.

Like he said, No new Tech, already there. Just piece it together.

I think they slipped a decimal point. 10.0 mpg

I can get YOUR car to go 100 miles per gallon. I'll just add another energy source and not count it.
You get 20 mpg? I'll add a four gallon tank. You'll go 80 miles and then switch to your main tank, use just a gallon out of it. Hey! 100 miles and you used one gallon!

the Future Truck competition managed to get 55mpg out of a ford explorer a few years back with off the shelf parts, not sure what the total cost was, but I'm pretty sure it was less then $50,000 after the ford was donated to them, so if you dubbled the size of the battery pack and pluged it in more so it was really a plug in hybrid... and didn't count the electricity used then sure 100mpg is possible, simaler to how some people who run veggie oil and only start on diesel only count the diesel used, giving them an F350 that gets 120mpg.
