Civic Vx Vs Hx

HI,
Just wondering what car is better of if there is such a thing. I have heard alot from VX owners and I am one but I have heard very little from HX owners. I know the Auto tranny HX's suck and are very problematic.

Any other things to look out for in the hx? What kind of mileage do HX owners get also are the vx and hx trannys interchangeable? From what I have read the VX tranny is higher geared meaning lower rpm at higher speeds....

If you have a HX or know about them please chime in and share your thoughts.

You asked about the HX last year:

the obdII d series engines appear to be more willing to spin bearings and throw rods that the older obd0 and obd1 engines.

i dont know if this extends to the d15z1 and the d16y5, but if it does then the vx is a better bet for reliability. the y5 does have a more powerful feel for passing though.

From my personal experience the 6th gen civic is not very reliable...If I had to do it again I would rather ride the bus...

a clutch is a normal wear and tear item especially with certain driving styles and inabilities.

the exhaust will go bad too. totally normal. (i just swapped out my clutch at 120k miles and there is a small hole by my muffler so i can relate).

that said, its a gross generalization to say that 6th gen civics are unreliable. mine is very hard to abuse, and performs wonderfully on its second timing belt and clutch.

I dunno it's just weird for me that everything went at around the same time.. I didn't have a hole in the muffler...if I did I would of just put another cheap *** muffler...My exaust manifold cracked.. When they opened it up it was done..

My 5 month old used 99 HX MT is running fine at 103,000 miles and gets usually 42.5 mpg weekly tanks on 2 days city 5 days hwy driving at 65 mph no hypermiling in Houston Winters of 60 F to 75 F weather.

My HX at 217,000 miles with a CX tranny gets 39mpg on the highway in winter going 80mph back and forth between stillwater and Tulsa. I got 55mpg in Houston last summer keeping it around 65mph.

I haven't had any problems with reliability and I think all civics are pretty slow so who cares about the extra 18hp? I personally want a VX engine/tranny in an HX (I don't like the shoe-like look of 92-95 hatchbacks).

wow...217k is a lot of miles...hopefully mine lasts that long since i've replaced pretty much everything...
