Here is how you buy an Aptera if you do not live in California, or a Honda GX, whatever that REQUIRES California residency. Get a California Driver License. Basically make your primary place of residence California, even temporarily. This requires a visit of a week or three. Plan a vacation around it.

You can find a friend who will let you use their address - visit them, get mail there (may require getting one of their utilities in your name for a month, etc. - check with DMV about licensing documentation), rent a room for a month or so, whatever. A rental agreement and a utility bill may suffice. Just make sure you've got the way to get the proper documentation.

Once you've got it, go get your driver license, and make sure you've got SOME sort of semi-permanent mailing address - a friend, private PO box, whatever, so you can get mail. You can always put that address on the license. Get a California cel number - should be able to be added to your current cel plan easily enough.

Then go get on the waiting list. Plan to fly back when yours will be available. Pay the ridiculous taxes & licensing fees.

Then, drive it back to your home state. Get your home state license back. License new vehicle in home state.

Now - parts & service you're on your own. I've heard of people doing this to get a Honda GX before they were available in other states.

WOW....that is a lot of work. I may consider doing that if I lived closer to california but I am in carolina so it is literally on the other side of the US for me. I could always watch ebay as well even though they will go for stupid money.

I am just going to wait. I see that there is a larger need in a stat like california where the population is so dense and I can wait at least for now. I am going to take advantage of the smart as I am on the waiting list for one and I know it isn't an aptera but with time we will see how the production of that car goes and If I am lucky, I may have one in my driveway eventually.

101, quick question for you. why is your CRX mileage (EPA) rated so low? was it a sport model or was it just the trans? I thought all CRXs got like 40 or better.

I don't think you need to visit THAT often if you had a friend who would help you out. Hell I have several friends in CA, it would be much easier to have them sign up for the cars themselves and I would just pay for the car and the fees. Once the car is in their hands, I come and pick it up.
