Been Lurking ...

a while, so its time to say hi and ask a question.

108 mile roud trip commute has forced me into conservation mode, my first attempt measured over 6 tanks of gas has netted me about an 8% increase in MPG's from around 33 up to around 36. (dont have the exact numbers in my head right now) All with easing off the go pedal.

My question has to do with all of these acronyms.
what do they mean? I have been looking around and havent seen any on place that explains them or how some of these "tests" are done.
some examples are FAS, P & G, coast down etc...

You can find a glossary of terms here: https://www.gassavers.org/showthread.php?t=1088I

Excellent post for sure, but still nothing about what is "P & G" or how to do a "coast down" test.

P and G is pulse and glide- on the highway, you pulse your speed speed up 5-10 mph fairly rapidly and then glide (coast) back down to your original speed. This fast/slow cycle may annoy tailgaters and some passengers.

Coast down- that is the glide part- you do not hit your brake pedal in a coast down.

OK, making more sense now.

But what is the coast down test I have been reading about?
from what I can make of it you coast out of gear for some time or from some mph to another. I would think when comparing mods you would want to do this on the same stretch of road using some landmark as a starting point.
What other "rules" are there for this test?
