Turned to the Dark Side

Here's my introduction. I got tired of my 100miles of commute and my usual ride with its 18mpg. I've got a couple of gixxers, but you can't drive those all the time. Picked up a $300 crx, took the fart can off it and started a little project.

neat! you can at least double your mpg with the crx, unmodded.

skirts are finished and on. made a hood vent to help deal with the grill block, block off plate for the side mirror, and removed the rear wiper. got some clean up work and some other projects before we paint this thing.

Why cut a hood vent when you could just unblock part of the grill?

less wind resistance

no issues with overheating, but it's only been in the 60's here. Also I've gone from 35ish mpg (this is an si and it's short gears) to 45 mpg. I've got to air up the back tires and build a belly pan, hoping to reach 50mpg.

Yeah I think you're better off pulling air from underneath and venting it out the top than letting it all go through the front... newer cars are made more like that.

However, I could see you having issues in hot weather with that warm air pulling into the cowl vents and cooking you.

Is the car lowered? I think if you add in HX or VX light weight rims (put dishes over the fronts for added benifit), LRR ties, lower the car, warm air intake, low visc oils etc. You could easily hit 55+

You could also pick up an HF trans for under $200, that would seriously up your MPG as well.

Looks awesome!

Really reminds me of the Honda Insight in the profile shots with the rear wheel skirts.
