VG's on the Del Dol best placement?

Well I decided to order some Vortekz Delta Wings...for the price I don't think I could have mad ones as ascetically appealing and after reading some threads on there they seem to produce some benefits and for $25 shipped I was sold...

Well my goal is to just trying and gain some benefits on my Del Slow project 94 Del Sol D15z1 swapped, I was just curious where would be the best place to mount them...on the roof or on the end of the trunk? I am assuming the roof but since the car is kind of uniquely shaped I wasn't sure if the VGs on the roof might cause a weird air flow over and into the trunk lid? Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks...Matt

here are some pics of the Del Sol for reference...

Definately the roof. Your car's roofline reminds me of the Porsche 914 race car that Airtabs were tested on with good results. The Vortekz fins will probably do well on that car even without a rear spoiler.

Well i been doing some research and found some info...seems the Del Sol has a CD of .37 or so...which is fairly bad and it seems the rear window design is the main flaw...it creates a lot of turbulence from the air passing over... I may have answered my own question now...

I was thinking of placing the VGs on the "roll bar" area after the targa top, right above the rear window...right above the 3rd brake...anyone confirm this as my best place to start? Thanks...matt

I do see the similarities!

Sounds good to me. I installed Vortekz fins on my nephew's Camaro in a similar place. His car has T-tops and a targa bar as well. But it would appear your mounting area is rather narrow...is there enough room for the fins on there? If so...then go4it.

Be sure to post pics when you're finished!!

It is fairly narrow, I was trying to get some exact dimensions for them but had no luck...however if the area is to narrow I might try to make some sort of spoiler to extent the surface area a tad...but looking at some pics on the manufacturers website these Vortekz seem fairly small, might be a tight fit...do you have an ruff estimate of the size of the ones you installed?

Pic from there website for size refference:

I went out and measured the Vortekz fins on my Volvo wagon. They measure 3 1/8" in length at the base.

Here's a pic I found to gauge size:

As a sidenote: I've thought of an interesting "test" you could try with your Del Sol. I believe your car has a roll-down/removable rear window, correct? If your were to stick your hand out the back window @ highway speed, you might be able to actually feel to downdraft from the VGs. Its worth a try.
Then again, a before-n-after trunk-mounted tuft test could also be very revealing. If they work as well as I think they will, those tufts should be laying nice and flat with the Vortekz fins on. ;)

Oh awesome, I have about 5" of space on the top of the roll bar are so I might try to place them at the fron edge of that and see if I get any possitive results...I was suggested to tie a peice of string to the rool bar and drive and see the effects before and after the VGs were on, I think I might try this...at this point in the progect I need to get the motor into the car first...thanks for all the help I will post my results once I have the car up and running Thanks...Matt
