Gas, Who Gets What($$$)
 

after some debate on oil and gas in other threads, hopefully this will clear it up for those that STILL think we shouldn't extract more, new US oil:

You might think gas-station owners are getting rich off record oil prices, but in fact most independently owned stations make just pennies per gallon. Big oil companies claim they're not big winners, either. Although Exxon Mobile netted $40 billion in 2007, THE AVERAGE PROFIT MARGIN FOR OIL COMPANIES IS JUST 7.6%, compared with 9.2% for most manufacturers. If demand for fuel continues to exceed supply, gasoline prices will continue to rise as oil companies are forced to turn to more expensive sources of crude.

Oil producers get: $2.96/gal
Refiners: 36 cents
Distributer/marketers: 28 cents
State gov't: 22 cents
Fed gov't: 18 cents

altho the %s vary from state to state and brand to brand, one can clearly see "big oil" is not so big in regards to profit compared to gov't and oil producers. take into account these #s do not account for net earnings(profit), so the gov't (tax) money has no overhead, the seperation is even greater.

it's ironic to me...

just as the US military protects the rights of anti-war activists, so do the oil companies protect the financial well being of the anti-oil activists.

well, gas prices are down on avg, along w/ consumption, 15 cents/gallon over last week.

so much for the liberal view that supply and demand has no bearing on price!
