The front end reminds me of late model VWs.

It doesn't sound like they're really upping the ante much with regards to technology, but if they offer it in a wagon then the Chevy Volt may have more competition to worry about.

Looks like some unemployed Ford stylists got a new job designing Prius grilles.

Lug_Nut 08-01-2008 10:39 AM

I think the grille / bumper treatment looks like the current Camry, about as innocuous as is possible.
How wimpy is the solar powered A/C going to have to be? If there's been enough advancement in watts per square foot output to run an A/C compressor, there's more than enough to power and drive the entire car if only the hood and trunk are also covered with these pieces of vaporware. There might be enough power to run a flow-through fan when parked with present solar panel technology, but A/C?
And the rear window(s) are unattractive. It is as if Toyota couldn't decide to use small, useful panels like the Insight or CRX, or to completely ugly-up to the Pontiac Aztec sizes, so they settled for useless, and ugly.
Triffic:rolleyes:

haha yea looks like a camry and a azteck had a baby... pure fugly IMO i think the current ones are fugly but eh not a big fan of any new cars...(anything after mid 90's lol)

Still uglier than a bag full of smashed buttholes imho.
Make it a hatch like the Matrix and maybe I'd swap the Mazdaspeed3 for one.
Maybe.

The Prius is a great car. Albeit that it has cosmetic issues.

I'm sure the difference between .32 and .26 Cd is the reason. I'm glad Toyota are not slaves of style.

LOL!

That new design doesn't look much more aero than before, looks uninspired, made by by a bunch of "in-the box" thinkers... It's still getting bigger, will MPGs be sacrificed too?

In europe, smaller diesel cars get EPA's way above the prius without the battery packs. 60MPGs is not unusual. And this has been for over 10 years... When I was there late 90's, I had a 2nd hand, between 6 to 10 year old hatchback that was a 1.9L diesel doing 47MPG without any FE technique knowledge.

I wish some car company would just make a simple FE car that has uncompromised aero body styling, stops the engine at red lights, DFCO, an option to Neutral with A/T in overdrive when the pedal is not pressed and the car is not accelerating, and have smarter options for cruise control.
That would likely get most of what a hybrid car gets w/o the complex technology and added weight.
