Small truck Fuel Economy.

1995 ranger 2.3l 5 Speed.

Last fill up was 8.5L/100KM and the tank before was 8.1L/100km

I had a Tacoma 2.7L 4x4 and the best I could milk with that was around 10.2L/100km

cool, you should start a gas log

ryandpotter 08-01-2008 07:31 AM

yeah, i plan to.

Also you americans shouldn't winge about gas prices....

Its been well over 4 dollars a gallon here (canada) for ages.

My wife had a '97 Ranger 2.3L Auto. Don't think it ever when over 25 mpg. I'll have to have it's current owner (a family friend) track it's mpg.

I agree though. I don't object to the current prices here. It keeps people honest.

The auto rangers are awful compared the 5 speed.

kamesama980 08-02-2008 01:55 PM

Does yours have power steering? I ask cause I used to have a 5-speed and it didn't get any better FE than my s10... slower too because it's 600lbs heavier

ryandpotter 08-03-2008 09:36 AM

It doesn't have power steering when the engine is off..........

but yeah. The power steering/steering racks have been awful on every ford i've ever owned with the exception of this one, which is 14 years old, go figure. I'm half tempted to disconnect the pump.

It just took me 3 months of owning the truck to realize my economy isn't quite right. whenever i've been coasting i've left the ignition off and therefore the speedo/odo and so those km's with the engine off haven't been factored in..

now i turn the electronics back on when i'm rolling.

I'd imagine the 2.2 s10 is better on gas simply since its lighter, but i've never owned one.

my 99ranger v-6 auto flex fuel is around 21-22mpg it would be higher if I didn't log those dozen fill ups of e85. But I use e85 still once in a while.

From what I found having owned a 1985 Toyota and 1985 Nissan truck in the past, you are better off owning a midsized V6 sedan when it comes to mileage. I just have to wonder where all that gas goes in mini trucks, as the trucks I owned sure didn't go anywhere quickly when you stepped on the gas. Gas literally disappeared like it was being dumped on the road.
