KIa Spectra

Last week, the Boston Herald held an ad from Quirk Kia stating (in two places) that the Kia Spectra gets 38 mpg. But The Kia website and fueleconomy.gov both say it gets up to 32 mpg. I notified the Mass State AG about the discrepancy.

Does anybody know of any unofficial studies which would allow them to make that 38 mpg claim? Could they be using Imperial gallons?

sounds like a sales tactic.

my guess is that some guy actually got 38 out of it one time and somehow recorded it in order to "legally" say that they got that kind of mileage.

one of my trips netted me 43 MPG on the old cav but I don't go around boasting that because it was just one trip.

Yeah, once I got 30 MPG highway in The Beast on a road trip about 3 years ago. I really wish I knew what I did right because I have not been able to duplicate results like that since.

They do this all the time.

The EPA doesn't just give a number but a range. I see sales people quoting the high number in the range all the time. The paper on the window probably states 24 and 32 as the big(average?) numbers and below it says it can range from 20-28mpg and 28-38 mpg.

Look at the window sticker when you swing by a dealer again. They mark Rio's here at 41mpg on the windshield saying "Up to 41mpg". It's like those HHO kit retards that come here claiming up to 100% increase. If you never get 41mpg in the life of the car it was an 'up to'.
