Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

Ben, aside from the factory ground wires and assuming I can't/won't go to the extent your YouTube video shows additional grounds: Which added grounds do you believe are most important? I was curious...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

I have cleaned all of my engine grounds, and even added a 4 gauge ground to the valve cover. The CEL is no longer a problem, it was only related to the LAF sensor(code 48). No codes have come on...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

IACV and EGR, and passages, were cleaned off of the vehicle last year(before this hunting RPM would happen at idle etc).

I will be removing the breather box, hopefully, at my next oil...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

No daytime running lights for us so it seems, but the car does have the shift indicator and the 'check' engine light looks like the one pictured for the US version, not blank as per the diagram in...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

It's really weird. There is still the faded Honda dealer logo on the back and I'm fairly certain the car doesn't have daytime running lights, but never really checked the way you described.

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

I don't know if it is or it isn't capable of lean-burn based on the computer(haven't checked to see the numbers on it yet) but I sure 'thought' I felt the lean-burn while driving. It took replacing...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

2HGEH236

I may just have to wait until my next oil change(a month away) because I think the way you described may be slightly easier to remove the breather box, and I can examine the grommet up...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

Well, I was able to replace the PCV valve and the car seems to run better. I think my old one could have been barely functioning.

I couldn't get the old grommet out without breaking my hand trying...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

Found the ONE replacement for the VX's PCV valve in my county(1 million people live here with 30-50 or more auto part stores)... under $3 dollars. Not bad, the 2 local dealers wanted at least $23+...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

Update, I called a local dealer and after giving him the P/N he says that the "P2M" in the middle of the p/n(Purolator had this) is the one that 'supersedes' the P07. So you can't get the "exact"...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

Well, just according to the manual it mentions everything in metric etc, and that it has stamped on the firewall "Made in Canada etc". The VIN checks out as Canadian, not US made. Unless, all VX's in...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

Does you're Civic have a similar setup with an elbow in one location that could fool you into it being the pcv valve location?

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

I don't have new hoses right now, but I'm definitely into cleaning everything up. I'm not about to pay the dealer $25 for a replacement valve, though. I'm going to see if AAP or O'Reilly will get the...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

Oh, and it turns out it had a clip on it, it was just so covered in grime! I want to clean up the area where it seats into and the end of the pipe itself. Nasty stuff.

Here is what I want to know,...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

Well, I got the PCV valve out and here are some pics. I cleaned it up some with Gumout spray but the valve sounds weak compared to PCV valves I typically hear new, I have to shake it really hard and...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

Right, that's what the problem is at some of the vacuum/breather hoses on the car now. The originals were left in the same place for so long, the spring clips 'indention' has created a glue like seal...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

Okay, I'm letting the car cool off, but will go for it later. Do you guys recommend re-installing a clamp of some type?

Thoughts: According to majestic Honda's image, it makes it seem like you...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

Okay, here is what blows my mind, the online service manual treats the 'elbow' as the PCV valve:

https://www.redpepperracing.com/technical/d/2995-2/afj.png

There is no mention of what Ben found.

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

Okay, well I just checked on the vehicle and followed the hose under the 'elbow' location down to a big metal black housing of some sort. I didn't feel the valve outside of the black housing, no...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

Unfortunately, I have only so much experience with cars until now. I can't recall which ones are, but some of the hoses are like melted onto the metal parts of the intake manifold. Any tips to loosen...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

I agree completely, thanks for the tips. I'm having to go over another thread to correct some advice I gave regarding it being an 'elbow' only system.

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

Wow, thanks for clarifying. I'm going to check it out first thing tomorrow morning. I bought a replacement for the 'elbow' when I first got this vehicle over a year ago, but I believe mine will be a...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

Wait wait wait...guys...is there some sort of place where an ACTUAL PCV "VALVE" is, and the thing we THOUGHT was the "VALVE" was actually just an elbow the entire time?!

ADDED: Okay from the...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

Yeah, I still have the 'valveless' PCV valve that came with this vehicle to my knowledge. I did buy a replacement because I thought I had some defective piece of garbage, but wound up using some...
