Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

For the 2.5L Volvo S60 I drive, I find the GPH to be .24-.30 with it occasionally going to .22gph with no accessories or electronics on.. I do find the engine likes to stumble a bit and that's when...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

Hey, benfrogg, does your MPGUINO have the GPH feature? If so, have you observed it and if so, what is it depending on air temperature? I was curious if your GPH level was significantly lower than...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

Hey benfrogg, when you do your fillups, can you please note the time of day you're doing the fillup, on a warm or cold engine, ambient air temperature, topping off or not, angle the car is parked at,...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

I noticed you're still getting a discrepancy in your fuel economy numbers from the tank to the MPGUINO.. Can you try for a tank or two not doing ANY EOCing? It'd be also helpful to know what kind of...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

I was reading about your car listed in your "garage" and I noticed you say you deleted your exhaust heat shield. You should put the heat shield back on because the heat shield helps the manifold...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

Well if you don't feel like fixing the rust on the manifold in select areas, I suggest running the o2 sensor on the manifold through an eye loop copper wire and ground that to somewhere on the...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

I'm confused by this post which was in another thread of yours.. What exactly were you doing with the PCV valve and why do you refer to putting the valve in a "slot" on the engine when the confusion...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

Did you clean the IACV? My civic was having that issue too and the majority of the issue was caused by a sticky/stuck IACV. (Idle Air Control Valve) Clean the EGR? A lot of these suggestions were...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

The easiest way I suppose is to try driving the car at night without trying to turn on the headlights. On the FJ cruiser I have, it has daytime running lights that use the actual headlights, no...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

I'm not really sure how a Canadian model car can be sold as "new" in the United States... When I say you have daytime running lamps, with the car running, if you release the parking brake (parking...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

Yeah, which is why taking out the whole breather box may be a good idea.. Oh and btw, you do in fact have a Canadian Model civic. Where do you live? If you don't live in Canada, I suggest disabling...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

What's the first 8 digits of your VIN? As for not being able to access the grommet, if you can't access it, it's because parts are in the way. Just remove the parts that are in the way in order for...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

There is a very significant difference between a US model made in Canada and a Canadian model made in Canada.. ESPECIALLY for the Civic VX! I would stop calling your VX a canadian model because it's...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

no because the design of the intake manifold on the Y7 is different from the Y5,Y8, and the '92-'95 civics which have a straight PCV valve instead of angled one. If you had known that those civics...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

I used a Napa Auto parts PCV valve and I think it worked fine. I went to carquest and it turned out, the valve they had was EXACTLY the same! Annoying thing was that carquest was $15 and Napa was $5,...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

yeah, because the valve was clogged, all that sludge/oil/vapor was pushing out and around the valve. The exterior of my valve (part you can see when installed in the car) was pretty dirty as well...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

That's normal, get some strong pliers and just press them open and rotate them until they get free. Just keep going at it and they should come off, be patient. I think you should be able to figure...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

all vacuum hoses and water hoses should have some sort of spring clip or screw clip. I prefer spring clips because you don't need a screw driver for them. Spring clip, when squeezed, should fit...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

Well it's a good idea to buy a few feet of vacuum and water hoses and just go to town replacing each one, individually, one at a time. As for the difficulty removing the vacuum hose for the PCV...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

Considering the age of these vehicles, I strongly recommend replacing all the vacuum hoses going to and from the PCV valve, the grommet, and at the very least, cleaning all of the connectors in...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

Just re-read his posts where he discovers where the PCV valve is. The vacuum hose you found with the elbow, follow it both to the intake manifold and to the engine. Where the hose plugs into the...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

The Civic HX and the Insight both use lean-burn and both definitely use PCV valves. An elbow is completely contrary to how a PCV valve should operate. Why don't you just spend the $5 on the PCV valve...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

Yeah well here is a really simple reason why I know it does not use an elbow. The Service manual for the '92-'95 civics mentions nothing of an elbow, look up a PCV valve and you'll see there is...

Re: 93 Honda Civic VX horrible fuel economy

It's not suppose to be an Elbow.. You should use an actual PCV valve because otherwise the car can get too much vacuum at the wrong time and or direct air back into the engine again, at the wrong...
