I think it goes back to how the vehicle is maintained. In my family vehicles are very well maintained, as my brother in law runs the service dept in a local Ford dealer.

When my Buick was made (1981), the manual called for 10W40 in summer, 10W30 in winter. I currently use 5W30 full synthetic year round.

When I was a poor college student my sister cooked the motor in my Buick, and afterwords, the oil pressure light came on anytime you were under 30 MPH. I dumped a bottle of Slick 50 in, and drove it...

Anyone who compares oil filters knows Fram filters are crap. My brother in law that works at a dealership calls them "The orange can of death." I personally like Wix filters.
