4-door hatchback with 1.6L B6 Mazda engine. Basically a BF Mazda 323 with a Mercury badge. Purchased in June 2011. Ran very rough - discovered it had the dreaded crank keyway issue which plagued many first-gen Miata owners. Fixed it myself and got up to the 30mpg mark. Deleted mudflaps & antenna, added newish slightly over-inflated tires, started doing lots of pulse-and-glide and I'm up in the 33mpg range!
Other work done so far:
- Replaced demolished wiper cowl
- Plugs/wires/distributor cap
- Rewired hatch wiring harness
- Both radiator hoses
- De-powered steering rack
- Flushed heater core
- Stereo and rear speakers
- Cup holders!
- Front brake pads
- Ball joints
- Driver CV axle
- Passenger CV axle (old one was SO stuck - took 3 guys at a shop 2+ hours to remove)
- New(ish) tires
- Steering wheel from '88 RX7 (horn button in the CENTER of the wheel where it belongs!)
- Shift knob/boot from a '93 Capri
- Heater bypass hose
- Valve cover gasket
- Front rotors & pads
