HTML Format for smaller screens ...

Matt -

It seems like the website is formatted for 1024*768 screen resolution. I'm already running at 1024*768, and I don't maximize my screen, so I have to keep using the horizontal scroll tab to read the text. Why not format for a smaller resolution like 800*600? Or some kind of implicit "free format" mode?

Or maybe I have a format override option in my Firefox settings?!?!?!

I wouldn't be suprised if it is a vbulletin limitation. In i.e. you can force a smaller font size and things seem to fit though they will be doubly small on a small screen.

I've actually toyed with the idea of having a pure text theme (no graphics, etc.)... it would only apply for the forums and not the garage. I'll put this on the list if there is a demand for it.

I'll vote NO on the pure text theme. I've read summaries of other websites in pure text form and it's very dry, it lacks personality. Call me simple minded, but I like having pictures, smilies, avatars and other pretty colors to entertain me.

oh, the pure text theme would just be an OPTION, and would not be the default.

It could also be advantageous for people browsing at work so that it isn't obviously a message board.

Perhaps a theme that looks like Microsoft Word?

The MS Word option would be very good. At first I was thinking of the "CodeGuru" forums look and feel, but MS Word is cross-occupation compatible, .

It would also be a good for the Internet-PDA enabled.

In the oh-so-olden days of 1995 to 1999, I traversed Usenet forums in my trusty netcom Unix shell account. *sigh*. I miss that account .

Matt, I submit to you that you have wisely disabled user selectable look and feels because they are not well tested and invariably some annoyingly small thing breaks and someone starts whining about it.

My vote is to spend the energy on something productive than trying to look like an office app, like some more functionality or something, I dunno. Carlos can maximize his window

If you are jonesing to be a look and feel masochist, here is an energy saving one that was in the "queue" first:

Attachment 1049

I don't want to maximize my window.

I am trying to conserve my left-mouse-button clicks in order to extend the usable life-span of my mouse.
