electronically controlled washers are JUNK!

Okay I bought this nifty GE frontloading washing machine 4.5 years ago. At the time it was high tech and retailed around $700. It hasn't been used muched we were a 2 person family and worked away from home for 2 years. It had lots of cool features that attracted me at first. 13 gallon wash, DC motor, electronic control, controlled detergent injection, good capacity, front load, made industrial sounds, etc. So I picked it up scratched at lowes for $350. 2 weeks ago it stopped agitating. Well some mice ate the diagnostic sheet from inside so I fled to the internet to find it most likely needed $150 in parts and it had several $150 "weak links". I did find that the input noise filter had a fried connector so I replaced that and a fuse on the speed control board($1.69 auto fuse). I couldn't find the correct fuse and wasn't going to waste money on ordering the correct one. So I tossed in 5 gallons of water shut the door and hit the start. The speed control went up in smoke. So I demolished the whole rig and tossed it in the dumpster the best part is I found $2 in change inside the drum.

and here is the vintage $25 replacement. This was easily the heaviest appliance I have ever moved. My left bicep burned and ached for 2 hours and I limped my left calf around for the rest of the evening. 250lbs+ plus lots of stairs and turns to get it home and installed. A maytag no less

If I learned one thing from this fiasco. Buy mechanically controlled washers, if you want high tech mechanical buy staber. If your on a budget anything cheap that has a twist style knob and doesn't knock, crunch, or leak.
