Anyone can justify their decisions, that's why we make them. I "only" get 36 ish MPG, but I also have superior handling, acceleration, grip etc to a car that will do 65 MPG. My previous car did 800 miles on a tank, could easily get 70 MPG, but I didn't enjoy the driving experience, I can't see the point owning a car unless you enjoy it.
Yes I've halved my economy, but Ive actually halved my miles per annum too, so I have a car with triple the power of my old one, and my fuel bill is pretty much the same...
