And my first car was a 1968 VW beetle that had no heat and when you drove thru a puddle the windshield fogged up.

So What !

You can not compare modern cars to those "classics".

I have done this to my car in the past, for performance reasons rather then FE reasons, and have never had a problem with either the AC or defrosting the windshield.
