The Scangage say that my Powerstroke diesel gulps down as much as 1.2 gph in winter cold. It decreases to about .4 gph in neutral when warm. The truck drops from about 17 mpg around town to 15 or so...

A car idling at a stop light has 0 mpg, and 0% efficiency, whether diesel or gas.
HEVs and EVs us no power when stopped in traffic. That's a big part of their efficiency.
