The downside to boron steel is the cost and training required to fix it. With labor costs, it just works out to be more financially sound for the insurance to total it.

Seems wasteful when looking...

I think the Smart actually shunts a majority of the force around the occupants. It's the same principles used for building building bridges and skyscrapers. It does well crash tests, and weights...

Lightening vehicles doesn't automatically equate to more deaths.

Half of crashes involve just one vehicle. Depending on the specifics of the crash, the weight of the vehicle will be used against...

Depends on what is the stationary object. If it is truly stationary and doesn't give, then all the force is going into the vehicle. How physics views such a crash isn't any different than a head on...
