I use synthetic oil in my engine and transmission. It is just what Honda recommend.
$32 for oil is cheap. Here in the UK we pay nearly twice that for a top quality synthetic engine oil.

If you have a car with carburettors then air filters make a difference. If it has fuel injection (as all modern cars do) then manufacturers air filter is perfectly adequate. Even a dirty air filter...

Welcome. Probably find the manufacturers fluids are designed for maximum economy already, with fully synthetic oils in both engine and transmission.
