went up the canyon for an event and couldn't find it.conditions were such:cooler,70's,higher elevation, big cottonwood canyon.winedy roads with some long straights.in a rush, runnin heavier figured i was already getting bad mileage,up hill.fast shifting.crusin 50- 70mph-a few spots up to 5500rpms but mostly 4-4500.stopped 6 x's.was anxious to see mpg at lower miles in those conditions-wammo-71mpg??!!where is the consistency here?bad mix?likes the higher, cooler altitude?

tried testing the epa- 55mph steady getting 73mpg rating. so this weekend went down south to family. kept him at avg. 57mph on the highway. and kept rpms below 4500 again. drove mostly at night so a bit cooler. had about 35 miles on the tank of city driving before trip.

very hot weather. fan on most of time. drove more conservatively (kept rpms lower no more than 4500rpm). had panniers off the whole time. a lot of short trips.

The fill up before this i avg. 57 mpg, and before that 59 mpg I just gave it a minor tune up before this last fill up- with new spark plugs and recharged the k&n air filter as well as added a dash of seafoam in the oil and fuel tank and added lucas in the fuel. i find it is shifting a little smoother and is running smoother at higher rpms but the gas mileage this last tank was horrible- worst yet- 51mpg!? come on...

on this last tank of gas i also, in an effort to clean out the engine"italian" style, took him on a nice long trip and intentionally ran at higher rpms, up around 5500rpm. as well as around town, generally ran at higher rpms in the 5-6000 range in an effort to blow out engine. in contrast before now i was shifting and cruising more around 4000rpm i would say
