Why doesn't the engine idle at the 750-800 range when the car is in motion? It would be nice to have that 0.1GPH while coasting. Is there a way to change the idle speed? Or is there a good reason why it idles at 1250RPM?
I think it something to do with manual trans. the computer thinks you might go back into gear while still moving.

Wink Mph is like the big bully for Gph

Ok. So here's the preliminary fuel usage for my Geo via information of the SG:

Warm idle when stopped: 0.1gph (very rare sight. 0mpg nonetheless)
Warm idle while coasting: 0.2gph (usually well over 100mpg)
Very cold idle: 0.3gph
30mph in 4th gear or 35mph in 5th gear: 0.4gph (75-87mpg)
45mph in 5th gear: 0.7-0.8gph (56-64mpg)
50mph in 5th gear: 1.0gph (50mpg)
50mph uphill climbing in 5th gear with gas pinned: 1.8gph (28mpg)

So basically in simplest form, to improve FE I need to somehow decrease my gph consumption while still maintaining high mph.

The mph is like the overweight kid that can't move on it's own (unless it's downhill ) while the gph has to tote the heavy mph around. You can get good FE by getting the gph to bring mph up to speed and then giving gph a break... but slowly the annoying mph loses momentum and the gph has to go to work again.

gph: "Oh no! not another hill! For heaven's sake mph, lose some weight!"

Did you forget the decimal point for the idles? Shouldn't it be .1 and .2 GPH?
Looks like you want to plan your routes to be somewhere around 30-40 MPH

Whoops. You're completely correct. It's now edited.

Yes, that would be optimum. I'm now totally avoiding the freeway (unless it's at night where I can get away with driving 40mph). The only downside to the city driving is the stop and go. I'm not too sure if the 1 or 2 city blocks of CODFISHing in my car is enough to offset the horrible FE my car gets when accelerating from a stoplight. My city is completely flat, so Fas'ing isn't really ultra-effective anywhere.

Peakster. I was looking at your garage and you say that you have a EBH but don't use it. Why? It should make a pretty big difference especially where you are located.

I usually park in an insulated/heated garage when I get the chance. Right now, the Geo is parked on the street (didn't want to wake family with garage door), but there is a silly bylaw in Regina that states that no extension-cords can cross the sidewalk. Plus I've driven off WAY too many times with them still connected!
