A bog instead of a surge might mean that the ecu is sending extra fuel but the VTEC cam is not active and you dont get the extra valve lift. That could lead to a rich fuel mixture I would think. ...

Does your VTEC work? The balls show up between 2500 and 3000 rpm. If not, your VTEC solenoid may not be working. In my VX there are three distinct modes of operation as reported by the butt dyno.....

That is surprising to me. I have both small side openings and the complete grill blocked except for 8 in2. My temp gauge didn't budge. What made you believe that you were about to overheat?

I have everything blocked except for a 4x2" area for the summer. I run completely blocked in the fall, winter and spring. You should have no problems.
