If I could quiet all the rattles, replace bushings/shocks/springs, and maybe stiffen the frame, I'd never feel bumps in my Buick. It's decent as is but those are areas I could improve.

Yup. Water gets into cracks, seeps in, or is absorbed, then when it freezes it expands. If the ice merely deforms but does not actually break the pavement then the snowplow will come along and tear...

Don't come to New England. You won't survive. I've never seen a road that smooth.
