Re: Looking at a used truck tonight

I don't have a meter. I'm thinking about just wiring in a separate horn button on the dash through the fuse box (lots of spare slots since I just have a work truck) and connecting it to a new horn.

The fuses look OK. I only looked over the master ground, and that looked all right too. I did not take the steering wheel apart; I'm a little gun-shy since it has an airbag.

Re: Looking at a used truck tonight

The horn sounds fine when the truck is off. It will not work when the truck is off and the key is in "run", either. I tried it in "accessory", but I cannot remember if it worked. I have tried...

Re: Looking at a used truck tonight

I have come to realize that the horn on the truck only works when the ignition is NOT in "run." Any ideas?

Re: Looking at a used truck tonight

Hey man, whatever it takes to keep it going. Usually my threads die after 1 or 2 posts. I'm just glad to spark a discussion.

Re: Looking at a used truck tonight

The rear brakes were completed right before I got the truck. The drums look new, and I know the wheel cylinders are new. The brake pedal was spongey, so I bled the rears. I couldn't bleed the...

Re: Looking at a used truck tonight

While there are some factory holes in the frame rails, there are also some rotted spots.

Re: Looking at a used truck tonight

Well, some of the frame crossmembers are almost gone on the right-hand side. I may try to get some tubing welded across there, but there may not be much to weld it to... the frame rails are pretty...

Re: Looking at a used truck tonight

Yeah, we salt it up. The cab corners and bedsides were replaced with new steel. They were rusted out at one point, too.

Re: Looking at a used truck tonight

I don't know. The frame rails will probably be OK for a while, but the crossmembers under the bed are pretty well rotted. Well, it makes the truck a little bit lighter, though, right? :)

Re: Looking at a used truck tonight

I don't plan on towing anything. The frame rails are so rusty I'd be afraid to break the truck in half. :)

Re: Looking at a used truck tonight

I finally did buy a truck, but I got something more along the lines of what I was looking for. Regular cab, long bed work truck with a V6. I actually noticed in the owner's manual that the V6 auto...

Re: Looking at a used truck tonight

guy sold it out from under me. He told me he'd hold it. I was standing next to it when the guy came to pick it up. After I drove 45 minutes to get there. And called him 6 times. After he told me...

Looking at a used truck tonight

I'm going to look at a 1992 Chevy 1500 Pickup tonight. It's an extended cab, short-bed, 2WD with a 350 V8 and a 5-speed manual. Seller has title.

On the phone, this is what the seller told me:...
