I'm sure you're right. Stopping the motor to go into reverse is a pretty odd thing by modern standards.

I thought the Messerschmitt did reverse by restarting and retiming the two stroke engine to run backwards? I've always thought accomplishing reverse via a beefed up starter motor was an elegant way...

Apparently minimum highway lane width is 12 feet...

Apparently minimum highway lane width is 12 feet (at least according to wikipedia). So two lanes turned into three would be 8 feet. So for a Messerschmitt sized vehicle, there'd be two feet on each...

I checked and even the Messerschmitt was four feet wide. I wonder what lane size would work with that? I don't know what size vehicle standard lanes are intended for.
