A lot of GM cars did that back then. My Buick has the hidden wipers, my 1980 Pontiac did, and my 74 Chevy did. My 86 Chevy and my 98 GMC do not. I think GM was doing it more for aesthetic reasons...

I like the Rain-X washer fluid. I never use any setting on my wipers but delay. I never use low or high.

THere are some on the forum that rig their wipers so they park in a vertical position, but I don't think there's much to be gained by it.
